The City of Ventura has willingly and knowingly created an unacceptable redirection of traffic to Poli and other residential streets through two specific actions:
- The modification of Main Street from four lanes to two lanes from the Avenue to Seaward and,
- The closure of Main Street downtown which eliminates Main Street as a connector road from the West side of town to the East side.
Poli Street is a two-lane street through residential neighborhoods that were never designed to handle the increased flow of traffic that the commercial streets of Main and Thompson were designed to do. This has caused a dangerous situation on both Poli and nearby residential streets due to increased volume and speed. Poli Street now has more than 12,000 cars per day which has significant impacts on both the health and safety of our residents.
The City has the responsibility to correct this situation as they were clearly aware that the only alternative would be diverting traffic to residential streets.
We, the undersigned, are demanding that the city take corrective action immediately with a specific long-term traffic mitigation plan for Poli Street as well as an immediate plan for temporary relief of the unacceptable volume and speed of traffic through our neighborhoods.
